When we began the Family of Love program in 2023, the initial group of families were from several different tribal backgrounds. That experience highlighted the inherent challenges of simultaneously teaching individuals from different hilltribes. Each tribe has its own unique culture, language, and social norms which differ considerably not only from each other but also from ethnic Thai customs. In 2024, the second group of families started the program and those families are all from the Lahu tribe. In March of this year, we began the third cohort comprised of families from the Karen tribe.

The first module, titled “What is Family?”, revolves around activities and discussions allowing individual families to explore their own perceptions of “family” and the associated responsibilities. The staff also share about how their faith forms their understanding of “family” as the building blocks God uses to form society.
Please continue to pray for the families during this time: that the curriculum encourages critical thinking, foster shifts in mindsets, and positive habits are promoted. Additionally, please pray that these families can break free from the ongoing threat of poverty and the vulnerabilities it creates.
